Our toddler curriculum is designed to ensure understanding of our monthly themes. Our program includes enriching activities which promote learning and discovery. Children in the toddler rooms are assessed on a monthly basis to determine each child's level and pace of development.
Our curriculum is based on monthly themes, each of which is taught through specific books and activities which help promote the understanding of the subject. Art projects related to the theme are based on simple tasks such as gluing, coloring, sponge painting, finger painting, etc. For special arts and craft activities, our toddler teachers occasionally ask parents to bring items such as empty milk jugs, family photos, etc.
The daily schedule in our toddler rooms includes circle time, during which the children say a prayer, learn about the alphabet, numbers, colors, and shapes. The caregiver also reads age-appropriate books and encourages the children to sing nursery rhymes which promote motor development. In order to stimulate sensory development and reception, the children are often exposed to different textures and smells. During naptime, lullabies are played in the rooms to provide a soothing environment for the toddlers.
Our toddler rooms are equipped with age-appropriate toys such as soft blocks, big Legos, cars, dolls, and simple puzzles. If weather permits, the children enjoy outdoor play twice daily.
At St. Joseph Catholic ELC we believe READERS are LEADERS. With that in mind each Toddler classroom visits the St. Joseph Catholic ELC Library at least once a month. During their visit the children are given the opportunity to “check out” a book to take back to their classroom until their next visit. Each class has a story read to them in the library during their library visit.
At the end of the day caregivers provide parents a "Daily Report", which includes important information about the toddlers' day such as his/her general mood during the day, eating, sleeping habits and diaper changes.
